FAT Karting Regional Championship Round 8 Results...
Sunday 26th October saw the penultimate round of the FAT Karting Regional Championships at Shenington - and what a cold start it was!
So much so that the karts were not only chilly, but in some cases struggling to operate - sadly Toms included as it gave up leaving the pits in practice. Luckily the fab team helped Tom (and a couple of others who'd suffered the same fate) to get a few laps in during their break. Thanks guys, it was appreciated as Tom has little to no cold/damp weather experience so far!
Qualifying started and those couple of practice laps clearly paid off - Tom managed pole! The pre-final was more eventful, a 360 spin on the first lap saw him dropping to 8th, and some impressive reactions from the rest of the field meant all the other drivers missed him. Tom then produced some great overtakes and quickly made it back to 2nd. With the pressure of the impending championship points on his mind though Tom pushed a bit too hard and spun a second time, again recovering quickly but with the lack of laps remaining finishing in 5th behind his main Championship rival.
The final began with Tom nervous about the conditions, but he pushed through and quickly got to second place, however keeping it was another challenge! With some epic racing between him, Luca and Casey, they kept Tom on his toes to the end of the race with Tom taking a well earned 2nd place while Jacob took a well deserved win up front.
Another podium under his belt, and having enjoyed watching many of the other groups putting in some great moves in their races too, Tom is looking forward to the final at Whilton Mill with his competitors and friends on Sunday 9 November...
AND.....going into the FINAL round tied on points for 1st place in the Championship!
