A winning weekend at Rissington!
After a tough start to the season things finally took a turn on Sunday at Round 3 of the F.A.T. Karting League Regional Championship at Rissington, a track Tom really enjoys due to the fast, challenging corners.
The standard was high across the board all day - taking 3rd in quali felt like a great achievement being only 0.120 seconds off of 1st, only to feel even better on finding out his clean driving style paid off when penalties above propelled him up to pole for the pre final! In fact the field was so tight that only 1.1 seconds covered the first 24 karts on the grid.
The pre final started well with Tom pulling a huge lead after battles erupts behind; only for that to disappear with a full course yellow for an incident further back, but Tom held his nerve and the lead crossing the line to take the win and pole for the final.
The final was a battle from the off, with Ruben hot on his heels at the start and Leo pushing later in the race, Tom fought fair but hard - retaking the lead twice and holding steady for the win at the chequered flag and his first trip to the podium of the championship. Finding out he’d taken his first win as a FAT Karting Junior light on the same day as all British podium in the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix was the icing on the cake!
Thanks to the F.A.T. team and our sponsors Brackenwood Windows, Prime Cover, Big Picture Creative and Niche Cover for helping support Tom with extra practice, equipment and more!
