Grid series round 6 and season review

…a two trophy season finale but which ones?!

22nd June saw the culmination of 6 months of races at Teamsport Reading, with Alex slightly ahead in the overall standings going into the evening. Tom was determined to reclaim the lead, with his only chance being to finish 1st on this final round & for Alex to finish 4th or below.

Having taken round 1 by storm, some knocks in Round 2 from an overzealous competitor (who earned himself penalties) meant Tom finished 6th. Round 3, half way, was better with 2nd place, staying top of the table with it all to play for in the last 3 events.

A small mistake in round 4 allowed Alex through in the dying moments for the win, making the championship super close. Round 5 saw Tom wrong place, wrong time losing 3 spots in a heat, fortunately still 2nd on grid for the final, which without the momentum to pass Alex he kept to the final.

So Round 6. Practice - Tom was flying, P1 well ahead of the field. Heat 1, from 5th he took the win, Heat 2, a challenging start point of 13th + kart issues led to 6th. Heat 3 and a new kart saw Tom start 8th and make it to 2nd at the flag. With the heat points tallied, Tom was 2nd on grid for the Final with Alex on pole. With it all to play for Tom made his move swiftly, passed Alex & with some excellent defensive work held it for the win!

Tom was delighted to take both 1st & fastest lap in the final round against challenging opponents. Plus to take 2nd overall (missing 1st by one point!) in his first ever junior championship feels a massive achievement being so close to taking the overall trophy.
